US corn crop now at 3% planted
US corn plantings have reached 3%, according to the latest US Department of Agriculture (USDA) weekly crop progress report.
Although recent weather – including renewed cold and wet conditions – has been challenging to farmers in the key regions, the national pace of corn sowings is equal to the 3% achieved in 2023 and ahead of the five-year average of 2% completed.
Currently Texas is the leading state with 59% of its crop in the ground followed by North Carolina at 8%.
For the other key crops, the USDA said cotton was at 5% planted, with sorghum at 13% and spring wheat at 3%.
